About Chartwell

An overview

Chartwell Advantages

  1. Stable in humid environments. Soluble and stable in aqueous products. Will not polymerize like silanes.
  2. Cost is typically lower than silanes and other adhesion promoters
  3. Can be used in both water and solvent based products
  4. At normal use level products are INDEFINITELY STABLE over the pH range 4-10
  5. Non-flammable, non-corrosive; non-toxic metals

Chemical Descriptions

Unique compositions based upon proprietary stabilized non-toxic metal(s) and other proprietary organofunctional components supplied as solutions in water, ethylene glycol, propylene glycol, and dipropylene glycol.

Applications

Coatings

  • Use in all industrial solvent based and water based coatings
  • Compatible and stable (as post add) with aqueous coatings (pH4-10)
  • Improves adhesion to metals, concrete, plastics, etc.
  • Improves humidity resistance
  • Improves corrosion resistance/ creep at scribe
  • Improves pigment dispersion of carbon black, phthalo, and others

Competition: Silanes and other adhesion promoters

Inks

Improves adhesion of aqueous and solvent-borne inks (acrylics, etc.) to plastic film including treated polyethylene and treated polypropylene

Rubber

  • Superior adhesion to metal, rubber and other synthetic surfaces, including PVC, polyurethane and others
  • Improved abrasion resistance
  • Increased tensile and tear strength

Competition: OSi A-189, Degussa Si 69

Adhesives

  • Improves adhesion to metals, plastics, and rubbers
  • Useful in water-borne industrial adhesives
  • Useful in rubber, epoxy, polyurethane and similar adhesive systems

Competition: OSi A-1100, A-1120, A-186, A-187

Abrasives

Improves wear resistance and durability

Competition: Thermoplastic OSi A-1100

Thermoplastics

  • Improves pigment/ filler dispersion
  • Iimproves physical strength properties of mineral filled composites
